HEPI / Advance HE webinar series – Schedule
What is the future of higher education?
Wednesday 9 February 2022, 11am to 12.15pm via Zoom
Is higher education headed for a revolution or more gradual evolution? What do higher education institutions of the future look like? Today’s universities face uncertain funding, the need for increased digital technology, fluctuations in demand and questions over the role of higher education. Should universities aim to transform into new types of institutions? Should the higher education sector be more diverse? Are there broader lessons in the shift towards tertiary systems in Scotland and Wales? Is the future of HE skills based? Virtual, in-person or blended?
Guest speakers: Rachel Sylvester, Political Columnist, The Times and Head of The Times Education Commission and Professor Ross Renton, Principal, ARU Peterborough. Third speaker to be announced.

Equalities plus’: how can higher education leaders create inclusive institutions?
Thursday 10 March, 11am to 12.15pm via Zoom
Universities’ equalities obligations are well known, but how do we balance these priorities alongside broader issues and tensions around the presence of institutional racism, a mental health and well-being crisis, sluggish social mobility and continuing gender disparities? How do leaders support all these priorities at the same time, particularly during a pandemic? A whole institutional approach is powerful, but how does strategic organisational leadership and governance need to evolve to encompass all of the related issues?
Guest speakers: Professor Shitij Kapur, President and Principal, King’s College London; Kaushika Patel, Deputy Pro Vice-Chancellor for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, De Montfort University; and Professor David Ruebain, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Culture, Equality & Inclusion), University of Sussex.
